I am a particle physicist who did a PhD at Cambridge on one of the last of the bubble chamber experiments, and then worked on TASSO, JADE, OPAL, BaBar and LHCb (which I'm still involved with). Posts at Oxford, Manchester and Huddersfield were interleaved with working on experiments in Hamburg, Geneva and San Francisco. A diversion into accelerator physics led to the founding of the Manchester accelerator group and the Cockcroft Institute. Work on FFA accelerators (including running the EMMA project) developed into machine studies for proton therapy and ADSRs. Other achievements have been originating the Particle Physics Masterclasses, for which I was awarded the Lisa Meitner prize by the Institute of `Physics and writing possibly the world's second-best statistics textbook. Nominal retirement is just giving more time to focus on the important stuff, so stay tuned....
